Finding an On-Campus Job

Every month, the University of Pittsburgh employs more than 1500 student workers.  Working for the University is a great way to become involved in the Pitt community, learn skills that will aid you in future jobs, and earn some extra money.

There are two types of student positions at Pitt.  The first type, the federal Work Study position, is partially funded by a Work Study grant awarded in a student’s financial aid package.  These positions are only available to students who were awarded a Work Study grant.  For more information about these positions and financial aid in general, please visit the Admissions & Financial Aid department in Alumni Hall.

The second type of student-worker position on campus is the student employment position.  These positions are funded by the hiring department and a Work Study grant is not required.  Many departments on campus hire to fill a mixture of both Work Study and student employment positions.

Our first suggestion for finding a student employment position is to seek out jobs posted on the FutureLinks web-based job posting system.  To access FutureLinks, log into the Pitt portal at http://my.pitt.edu, select the “Career Services” community, and click on the “Log in to FutureLinks” link on the right-hand side of the page.  When searching, simply select “Student Employment (On-Campus)” positions.  Should you choose to look outside the University for a part-time position, FutureLinks also contains jobs in Oakland and surrounding areas.

If you are unable to find any jobs in FutureLinks, consider visiting various departments on campus to inquire about employment opportunities.  Many campus jobs are advertised only by word-of-mouth and speaking directly with the hiring department is the best way to get your foot in the door.  You might also notice that some departments advertise around campus.  Keep a lookout for flyers posted around campus advertising student employment opportunities.  Additionally, some departments advertise their available student employment positions on the web.  A few of these departments are listed below along with a link to more information about job opportunities:
